Product Overview
EZFacility is one of the leading facility management software providers in the sports, health, and fitness industries. Their SaaS tools do everything from facility scheduling to employee management, point-of-sale, invoicing, online registration and more. I originally joined the team to help create and customize the UI of their mobile apps for each of their customers. My role then expanded to working on the UI/UX of their main suite of products.
Problem
EZFacility’s UI/UX have not seen a refresh since the its founding a decade earlier. It suffered from many of the UI/UX ailments from the early 2000’s. The UI elements felt extremely outdated, while the interactions were confusing with a very steep learning curve. There was a lot of hand holding in terms of customer onboarding.
Solution
I worked closely with support and the development team to decipher a lot of the customer feedback. This helped to identify a lot of pain points, and gave us a road map in terms of prioritizing updates. I was able to create a set of style guides, and then update the UI and UX feature by feature following the road map.
Training Management System (TMS)
TMS is EZFacility’s main SaaS product. It helps fitness related business owners manage different aspects of their business, including session scheduling, facility rentals, trainer payroll and much more. The development team broke the product updates into phases based on feature set. The phases were then prioritized based on customer feedback and urgency. The feedback also helped me to drastically improve TMS’s navigation and user interactions, while modernizing the look and feel of the product.
Point-of-Sale (POS)
Many fitness facilities also have a retail side that sells apparels, nutritional products, and other merchandise. EZFacility also provides a point-of-sale system to accommodate this need. The design of the old POS system was wholly revamped as it was moved onto a completely different codebase.
Scheduling Wizard
The Scheduling Wizard is a client facing tool that assists tournament organizers with scheduling matches and reserving rental spaces from facility owners. Since it was a stand alone tool, it was one of the first products by EZFacility that was revamped.
Final Thoughts
Prior to the UI/UX updates, EZFacility users often reported frustrations due to outdated or poorly designed interfaces. These pain points can range from confusing navigation to clunky workflows, resulting in decreased productivity and user dissatisfaction. By re-designing many aspects of the product, we were able to address these pain points, and enhance the overall usability and effectiveness of the software. Optimizing user experience by tailoring the product to the needs of the user base also had the added benefit of reducing training time, as well as fostering increased user engagement.
